Zula is an assistant you talk to on WhatsApp. You tell it about your money, your household and the things you need done, so it ends up holding personal details. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, who else touches it, how long we keep it, and how you can see it, change it or delete it.

The short version

1. Who we are

Zula is built and run by GARVITECH Solutions Private Limited, a company registered in India with its registered office at Pottayath House, Meloor, Poolani, Chalakudy, Koovakkattukunnu, Mukundapuram, Thrissur, Kerala 680311. In this policy, "Zula", "we" and "us" mean GARVITECH Solutions Private Limited, and "you" means anyone who uses Zula or joins the waitlist on heyzula.com.

For the purposes of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we are the Data Fiduciary for the personal data described here.

2. What we collect and why

Each item below is listed with the reason we need it. We do not use any of it for a purpose that is not listed here.

When you join the waitlist

WhatWhy
Your email addressTo send you one welcome email and, later, your invite. Nothing else is sent in between.
How you found us (the link or ad you came from, and the referring page)To learn which channels bring people to Zula. This is never combined with anything you later tell Zula.

When you use Zula on WhatsApp

WhatWhy
Your WhatsApp number or WhatsApp user ID, profile name, language and time zoneTo know it is you, reply to you, and send reminders at the right local time.
The messages you send Zula, including text, forwarded bank or UPI SMS, voice notes and photos of receipts or billsTo understand what you are asking for and act on it. Photos and voice notes are read or transcribed and then deleted (see section 8).
Your money records: spends, income, refunds, transfers, investments, categories, budgets, tags, splits and settle-upsThis is the ledger Zula keeps for you. It powers your summaries, budgets, alerts, charts and reports.
Merchants and payees Zula learns from your entriesSo you are not asked to categorise the same shop twice.
Names you give for people you lend to, borrow from, split with or pay, along with amounts, dates and remindersTo keep track of who owes whom and remind you when something is due. We never contact these people.
Business details, if you use business mode: business name and type, business categories, and names of customers, suppliers or staff you mentionTo keep your business books separate from your personal money. Personal and business records are never combined.
Reminders, to-dos, notes and preferences (for example quiet hours, or whether tips are on)To remind you at the right time and behave the way you asked.
Links to other apps you choose to connect (see section 5)To place orders or bookings you ask for and confirm.
Technical records: message IDs, timestamps, errors, and how much each request cost us to processTo keep Zula running, fix problems, prevent abuse, and work out what the service costs to run. These records do not contain your message text.

Some of what you tell Zula is about other people, such as a friend you lent money to. Please share only what you need to, and only the way you would note it in your own diary.

When you pay for Zula

If you buy a subscription, payment is handled on our website by a licensed payment provider. We receive only the result of the payment (paid or failed, amount, date and a reference number). We never see or store your card, UPI PIN or bank login.

3. What we never do

4. How AI is used

Zula uses AI language models to understand what you mean, for example that "gave 500 to Ravi" is a loan, or which category a spend belongs to. These models are provided by Anthropic and OpenAI. When Zula needs them, the relevant part of your message (and, where needed, a little recent context) is sent to them for processing.

5. Linked apps and orders

You can connect Zula to apps such as Swiggy, Zomato and Zepto so it can search, build a cart and place an order or reservation for you. Linking is optional, and you sign in on the app's own page. Zula never sees your password for that app.

WhatWhy
The access token the app gives us when you link itTo act for you in that app, only when you ask. It is stored encrypted.
The delivery address you choose, the items, prices, order status and order ID returned by the appTo show you the cart and total, place the order after you confirm, and tell you where it is.
The order total, merchant and date, only if you turn on order loggingTo add the order to your Zula ledger as a spend, so your budget stays accurate.
Your order history from the app (items, quantities, dates, amounts), only if you turn on suggestionsTo show you your recent and regular orders, and suggest reorders at the right time (for example, "milk usually runs out on Thursdays, reorder?").
Offers and discounts the app makes available, only if you turn on suggestionsTo show you offers on items you regularly buy, and related items you might want.
Your ordering patterns: what you buy, how often, when, and how much you spend, only if you turn on suggestionsTo personalise your suggestions and reminders, and to show you spending and ordering insights (for example, "you spend about ₹4,200 a month on groceries").

Your choices when you link an app

When you link an app, Zula asks you separately about each of these. Each one is optional, and linking works without them:

You can change any of these at any time by telling Zula, for example "stop reorder suggestions" or "turn off order logging".

6. Who we share data with

We share personal data only with the service providers that help us run Zula, only for the purposes in this policy, and under contracts that require them to protect it.

ProviderWhat they do for us
Meta (WhatsApp Business Platform)Delivers messages between you and Zula.
Anthropic, OpenAIAI models that understand your messages (see section 4).
Cloud hosting provider (servers in India)Runs Zula's servers and stores your records.
SupabaseStores the website waitlist.
CloudflareHosts the website and protects it from attacks.
Google (Gmail)Sends our emails to you.
Payment provider (when subscriptions start)Takes payments on our website.
Apps you link (Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto)Receive the order details needed to fulfil the order you confirmed.

We may also disclose data if Indian law requires it, for example in response to a valid order from a court or government authority, or to protect someone's safety. If the company is ever merged or sold, your data would move only under the same protections, and we would tell you first.

7. Where your data is stored

Your records are stored on servers in India. Some of our providers, including the AI providers, process data outside India, mainly in the United States. When that happens we send only what the request needs, and we rely on the provider's contractual protections. Transfers outside India are made only to countries the Government of India has not restricted.

8. How long we keep it

DataHow long
Waitlist emailUntil you get your invite and start using Zula, or ask us to remove it. Unused waitlist entries are deleted 12 months after the invite is sent.
Your ledger, people, reminders and preferencesFor as long as your account is active, until you delete them or your account.
Photos and voice notesDeleted as soon as they have been read or transcribed. We keep only the details taken from them (for example the amount and shop on a receipt).
Chat history used for contextUp to 90 days, then deleted. The text of a message that created an entry stays with that entry, so you can find and correct it.
Linked app tokensUntil you unlink the app or delete your account.
Order history and patterns from linked appsWhile the app is linked and suggestions are on. Deleted within 30 days of unlinking, turning suggestions off, or deleting your account.
Technical and access logsOne year, as Indian law requires, then deleted.
Inactive accountsIf you have not used Zula for 12 months, we will message you. If you still do not respond within 30 days, we delete your account.
BackupsDeleted data disappears from our backups within 30 days.

Anonymous usage counts (for example, how many messages Zula handled in a month) contain nothing that identifies you and may be kept longer.

9. How we protect it

No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your data the way we would want our own treated.

10. Your rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you have the right to:

We reply to requests within 30 days, and resolve grievances within the 90 days allowed by law.

11. Children

Zula is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child is using Zula, write to us and we will delete the account.

12. Cookies and the website

heyzula.com does not use advertising or tracking cookies. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies and does not track you across other sites.

13. If something goes wrong

If a security incident affects your personal data, we will tell you without delay in WhatsApp or by email: what happened, what it means for you, and what we are doing about it. We will also report it to the Data Protection Board of India and CERT-In as the law requires.

14. Changes to this policy

We will update this page as Zula grows. If a change affects how we use data you have already given us, we will tell you in the chat before it takes effect and, where the law requires, ask for your consent again. The date at the top always shows the latest version.
